New Years resolutions for your home

New Year resolutions don’t have to be limited to your personal life goals – you can make resolutions about your home life too.

Setting goals for your home is something that is generally overlooked but is necessary to do, as it impacts your day-to-day life.

Here are three apartment resolutions to keep, so you can start the year right.

1. Organise room by room

Organising, rearranging and decluttering your home is a big job and may bring on feelings of stress. Letting go of your belongings or moving your things around is hard enough – emotionally and physically – and having to do it in multiple rooms increases the chances of feeling overwhelmed.

A room-by-room approach will help to prevent these feelings. Break down your tasks for the room into small, achievable ones and set deadlines for completing them.

With only one section of your place to focus on at a time, the progress will be easy to see, and you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment each time you finish a room.

2. Create a cleaning checklist

Maintaining a regular cleaning schedule means both your space and your mind will always feel clean and refreshed.

Implement daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks. Start with the small things each day, such as wiping down surfaces or making the bed. Then each week do something a little bigger like vacuuming and disinfecting the kitchen and bathroom; and each month do a deep clean of every room.

In no time, you’ll get settled into the routine and will love how spick and span your apartment always is.

3. Set an apartment budget

Is there a piece of furniture that has recently caught your eye? Do you want artwork to brighten up the place? Or do you have whiteware that needs upgrading?

Budget what you think you need for the year for emergencies and enjoyment, and create a fund that is purely for apartment improvements and upgrades.

This fund will come in handy when something breaks down or you just feel like switching out a decorative item.

New year, new you, new home. Make 2025 the year of keeping your place organised, clean and within budget.

By making resolutions like tidying your things room by room; creating a cleaning schedule and checklist; and setting a budget and saving towards that number, your 2025 will be off to a great start!
