How to make your apartment the perfect work from home location

The “work from home” concept quickly became the norm in 2020, and all these years later, it is still very much a reality for many workers.

Although working from home in an apartment might seem like a mission – because there’s not a whole lot of extra space for a full office set up – if you organise yourself and your space right, you’ll discover that everything can fit and find its place.

Here are three tips to help make your apartment a conducive work from home location.

1. Get a foldable or fold-down desk

A desk that can be packed up easily is a great space-saving item.

Whether it’s a foldable one which you can store under the bed or in the corner, or one that is wall-mounted and folds up and down, having a desk that can be tucked away when it’s not being used is practical for smaller spaces. It can be there when you need it and put away when you don’t.

Look for a colour that matches the walls in the apartment, so that the desk disappears into the background at the end of your working day.

2. Have an efficient storage system

Keep clutter to a minimum by keeping your files, notes, stationery and other work items bundled together and out of the way.

Storage solutions like small shelving or containers that can be moved effortlessly is one way to make sure your apartment is tidy and doesn’t look like a workplace.

Or, if you don’t mind the workspace vibes and accessibility to work materials, go for a bookcase that sits in your “office” space and holds all your work items in a single area.

3. Designate a specific area to be your workspace

Get into a routine by sitting at the same place each day. Reserving a small part of your apartment to work in will help you get into work mode faster since you will associate that particular location as your workspace.

Whether it’s the corner of your living room or bedroom, a benchtop in the dining area or even an outdoor space, having a specific area you sit at every day means you can get into the work mindset easily.

With no need to travel to an office if you work at home, it’s important to find ways to separate your home space and workspace.

Utilising foldable furniture, practicing efficient storage and designating one area to do your work all combine to make for a perfectly organised work from home space where you will find a balance between productivity and comfort.
