How to choose your apartment level
Location, amenities, and security are some of the essential elements to a good apartment, but don’t forget about the apartment’s floor level.
Thinking about the level your apartment is on probably isn’t at the top of your checklist, but it should at least be on there, because floor levels will impact the way you live your life at home.
Here are three key considerations when choosing your apartment’s floor level.
1. View
For some people, view is everything.
Whether it’s the mountains, city or sea, the view from your window can be a key deciding factor. On the upper floors you’ll feel sky-high and get breathtaking and more expansive views of the apartment’s surroundings and goings-on of the city. As you go lower, the views are still great, but you’ll be more immersed in the activities of your area such as people walking by and cars driving past.
If you like catching the views from outside, select an apartment on an upper level with a balcony, so you can sit out there and indulge your senses.
So, what will you choose? Uninterrupted views or hustle and bustle?
2. Accessibility
How easily you can get in and out of your apartment may be on your priority list.
If you have a job that requires you to leave quickly, have movement restrictions, or you just don’t like waiting for the elevators, then an apartment on one of the lower floors is for you. Less waiting time and only a quick trip down the stairs to get outside are some of the benefits of living on one of the first few floors.
If time is not an issue, and you prefer to be away from the busyness at the entrance of the building, then go for an apartment on a higher floor.
It’s just like the game of cards – do you want to go higher or lower?
3. Natural light
The higher you go, the more natural light you’ll get – especially if your building is taller than the ones around it.
If you like to bask in the sun or host events, the natural sunlight that’ll stream through the windows will brighten up the place and make the space seem bigger than it is.
But being on one of the lower floors doesn’t mean you’ll get no natural light. The surrounding buildings may hinder the natural light coming in, but you’ll get enough to keep your rooms warm and bright. However, you might just need a little help from some interior lighting!
Thinking about the lifestyle impacts of your apartment floor level is something that needs to be done more often when buying an apartment. By considering your view preferences, accessibility needs and natural light requirements, you’ll be able to make the right decision about going with an upper floor or a lower one.
